We aim for enriched, fulfilled and happy lives for the people we support.

In this series of posts I will share some of the ways The Grange (2016) Ltd have been achieving this.

We are incredibly proud of the culture that we have created within our services.  We are especially proud of the enthusiasm of our staff and their dedication to person centred support.

Sharing Skills

We have encouraged and supported staff to share their own passions with the people we support.  These activities give people an opportunity to learn something new and be shown by someone who truly enjoys it themselves.  What a wonderful job it is too, to be able to go to work, support a brilliant group of people and share a pastime that you love too!

Soon a group of 5 staff will take part in our pilot group whereby they will become mindfulness practitioners.  They will share their skills with the people we support and others within the team.  We hope to roll this out further to enable the people we support to become mindfulness practitioners too.

We of course enjoyed learning how to brew our first Ale but it didn’t stop there.

One staff member enjoys making her own homemade soaps so she shared this skill with the people we support.  People took part in an activity to learn how to make soaps. Choosing the colours and scents that should be used. Finally these formed part of Christmas gifts individuals chose to give to their family and friends. When we can’t get out to the shops and we are missing the important people in our lives, what’s better than putting your heart in to something handmade.

We are big on wellness for the individulas we support, and they like nothing more than the weekly Zumba sessions.  It certainly get the blood pumping!

With a strong focus on wellbeing and in preparation for our mindfulness project individuals have enjoyed meditation sessions delivered in house.  In a world of uncertainty, these sessions support people to reduce stress and anxiety.

Coming soon, I will share how we have supported people to look after themselves.
